SR-71 much faster than X-15
In fact the Blackbird is definitely the fastest on the block...

Will be nice to see Tony and crew at BES wreak havoc on the class with Ford power. Congrats Geoff

Can’t wait to see the power difference between the 2014 CJ combination and the 2018 from BES and crew.

Thanks ! Looking forward to another exciting season in 2019 and fully expecting a lot of uphill climbs on a very steep learning curve as we try to sort the new ride out. Should be a blast.

You better check your facts. The X-15 went over 4,500 mph

Duh, stand corrected but at least got to plug in the LA Speed Check video which is one of my favorites. Have toured many air museums and visited Edwards for work a few times and the X-15 program completely slipped what’s left of my mind.

The SR71 was the fastest manned jet ever produced as far as we know. The X15 was powered by liquid-propellant rocket. The new leader in speed us now the NASA X-43, but is unmanned and hit speeds of over 7K Last edited by David Lee; 10-22-2018 at 01:34 AM. |

David, we were cool with moving to a different powerplant but I'm not ready to quit driving, go autonomous ... yet

Nice ride, but I'd look for a new name. X-15 is a museum piece and is no longer in service. It was carried to launch altitude by a hulking jet bomber and dropped to fire off it's rocket engines. Really fast for it's time but not a great metaphor for a killer drag car.
Cobras are among the deadliest snakes due to the large quantity of nerve toxin in their venom. Scientists rate animal poisons in a scale called Lethal Dose 50 (LD50) the amount of venom that kills 50% of the lab rats that get it. Maybe Lethal Dose? EDIT: The SR-71 still holds the world record for man controlled air breathing aircraft.

Dale, appreciate the ideas and thoughtful comments, but >4,500 mph is pretty fast in my book (and still the fastest manned aircraft ever). As old as we are, we like the history and love the metaphor... and one of us doesn't like snakes, at all
