They'd probably say no. It's hard to tell what's okay anymore. But they'd probably never know unless someone posted it on an open world wide web forum, that they've been known to read.

If you inclined to spend the time doing so, properly welding any body and chassis components, that were half ***** spot welded together with the QC of the 60s and 70s, will make a big improvement in any uni-body car. For the most part, they are pretty flimsy.

And if you do move the steering get ready to spend a little time on adjusting bump steer, with long and short tie-rods. Its never something for nothing.

Bump steer is always very time consuming, but on box relocation I have zero experience.

Bump steer is always time consuming, especially if you're bending parts to adjust.


I don't think I have seen a Hemi Dart/Barracuda that hasn't had the box moved some. I always thought Hurst slotted the boxes.

The box is a stupid amount of distance from the frame.? Even the steering shaft is angled toward the engine and the whole drivetrain is offset over an inch or more to the right. At least I got the spindle to stay zero thru the up and down travel. Bump steer next. Got a hot torch and BFH.

Make sure you have your caster and camber dialed in before you start the bump steer process. Ideally you should have the center link at the midpoint of travel to start, with the plane of the front wheel parallel to the centerline of the car or rear track (your choice).

No matter what, once the first side is where you want it, you don't get to move the steering angle at all. And...that should be the position the steering is located as the car goes down the track.
