'65 Belvedere in SS/AA?
Checking out the quals at Jeg's Sportsnats the weekend, and noticed this: # 6 Jason Shumate, Memphis, Ind., ’65 Belvedere, 8.750, 0.950.
Hmm, that's pretty sporty, so I looked him up, he runs in SS/AA?Qualifies good at lot of races, Best appearing car awards, He's the real deal, but what am I missing about the Belvedere in AA? |

Natural B car, allowed to add or remove weight to move up or down one class. So it can run A, B, or C.

Re: '65 Belvedere in SS/AA?
I did not know that! I just always thought '65 was a "B" car period. So can '68 "A" Cuda or Dart add weight to run "B"? Not sure what HP factor is now, does he weigh same as the '68's to run in "A"?

No, the '68 cars cannot move. They are AH only, except for the cars running GT. I think NHRA added HP to the GT combo though to discourage that. As far as the weight, a little less actually. The '65 can run at 3170 in A, where I believe the AH cars are 3200 minimum.

Re: '65 Belvedere in SS/AA?
That is interesting. IIRC, we used to weigh 3260 in IHRA trim about a hundred years ago. So he's basically getting almost a 100lb break and giving up some aero with the same engine pkg? Speaking for myself, I'd like to see some B cars in the Hemi Challenge, would be a change from all Cudas and Darts. The purists would hate that, though!
