Re: Top Stock is back
Michael Beard had Jr. Stock at his two class nationals
You're right . Don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen again.

Re: Top Stock is back
What were the rule differences to Top Stock back in the day? I looked back at some results from 2004 era and they were hauling!

Re: Top Stock is back
Are you talking about when IHRA ran Top Stock and let it morph into something out of hand because they never looked at them or when NHRA had it and actually teched the A, B and C/Stock cars that ran in the class?

Re: Top Stock is back
Just for conversation, some of the items are if a combo had a "weak spot", it might get addressed such as the rockers on the Chevies were prone to break or stick through the rocker so we all got rollers; as it progressed ported heads were allowed under the assumption we all had acid ported heads anyway (true I'm sure), then some combos were allowed different heads configured as produced by mostly Edlebrock but some factory, we started with a 360 Crate combo with a 750 Holley stock, then an 850 Holley, then an aftermarket 850, and some other items for some certain combo. At the end under these rules we legally (and the only one probably legal) ran 9.51 @ 138 mph. About 2900 lbs 70 Ply Duster. I think the bad guys at the end had breath treatments. I would do it again in a minute. .

Re: Top Stock is back
When I first started racing, our local track didn't have bracket racing yet. They had Stock & Top Stock. But, their Top Stock was not what you guys are talkin about.
Their Stock was just the slow street cars. What they called Top Stock was run off the track records. Run quicker than the track record for your class & breakout. I lowered my D/S track record several times & won quite a few races there. Began in '73, pulling the car to the races with a 4-door Caddy & a tow bar. Hey, you gotta start somewhere.
