Default Mapping timing curve on NA bbc

Has anyone had any experience with mapping the timing curve on a naturally aspirated BBC? I know for a fact my ride likes a lot of timing down low and I was thinking about acquiring a power grid and mapping a timing curve to advance for the hit then pull timing as i go through the gears. Ive seen a micro switch mounted on the shifter that pulls timing out in high gear on a couple fast cars but I was seeking the advice of the wise before I go out and burn another $500 or so on a power grid system. Would I be chasing my tail or is there something there?
