Your not going to get a custom clutch from the online speed shops. Your going to get a street clutch with excessive base pressure. Having the right base, levers and lever ratios make a difference. With the loss of Tim Hyatt, it really hurts the stick racers as he was another good guy to get a clutch from and talk to.

How much does the off the shelf Summit clutch weigh in comparison to the Advanced? It will be like night and day. Every time I have called Rob, he has always answered the phone and has been brutally honest and very helpful. The Advanced clutch is predictable and I know exactly what the clutch is going to do when I make an adjustment, I did not have that with my other custom clutches.

For the OP,
If the guys running the same combination you are, and they suggest something or someone, take that advice to heart and act on it. If you are just getting going you don't have to have the wiz bang clutch to get the car on the track.

I think the advanced clutches were on sale in the off season, so it is worth calling him to confirm pricing.

There are several great clutches to choose from out there made by different manufacturers. They can range from 2000-6000 or more for some exotic stuff.

I can tell you I prefer the advanced stuff in our stockers. For me, I found it easier to slip the clutch on the line without having it drive through the clutch down track. They are lighter and I have found them to be quicker than the heavier stuff on our cars. Rob also specializes in stock and superstock stuff so he is very helpful. He will pick up the phone on a weekend also.

One thing that has made a difference for me on all of the clutches is to first send them to Kyle Carruthers. He is a smart guy. He builds clutch dynos. He will spin your clutch up on his dyno at different base pressure and counterweight for you. You get to see the cause and effect. You get a nice excel spreadsheet. I use it with the racepak data to see where the clutch slips. Once I know that, I use the dyno sheet to tune my clutch.

That helps because I can go to a bracket mode set up with less rpm and less clutch maintenance to a performance run without guessing. I know what to adjust without fear of losing the run.

The complete assembly that I ordered online through summit weighs 28 lbs. Hyatt recommended this clutch a few years ago. It is a Mcleod, and base on it is 200#. Hyatt has always been my clutch guy. And yes it is a off the shelf hcf disc. I don't run stock or super stock. I run S/G, so yes the guys running stock and super definetly know what they talking about. My clutch is at Hyatt's to get rebuilt, and when I heard the situation, I ordered the same deal I have been running. The stock and super stock guys are the ones i try to talk at the track. I just had occasion to use the services of Kyle Carrothers. Kyle checked my clutch on his dyno and even provided a computer printout listing the pressure at different rpm. Fast turn around and an all around really a nice guy.
