Our Grand Marshal was announced fittingly during the Comp Cams Dave Layer Memorial Quick 32 winner's circle celebration, in front of a large gathering of friends and family. It's more than just drag racing.
![]() We love you, DeDe!

Great job Mike! It was very nice to meet you Friday and "hob nob with royalty". Congratulations, Craig Dawson. P.S. Thanks for the pic.

The weather was perfect...the racing was outstanding...the cars were gorgeous...we just needed a few more! Thanks to everyone for putting up with a novice at Class announcing this past weekend. I enjoyed all of the racing, and the Dave Layer Memorial Quick 32 CIC race is truly one of the coolest races I've ever announced! Congrats to you, Mike, and all of the other winners and money collectors over the weekend! Thanks of course to the Beards and the Waltons for trusting me with this race, and to the National Trails and the All Star crews that helped make the race great! A few
observations: 1. The turbo 4 Fords are going to rule the world at Indy. 2. I've gotten spoiled announcing 1/8 mile bracket racing. The was often an awkward (to me) pause as I waited for everyone to reach the 1/4 mile finish line. 3. The best looking car there, bar none, was Ray Barnhart's 60 Chevy NSS car. I'm a Mopar guy and I wanted that Chevy bad. 4. The stray dog that was running around the pits Thursday through Saturday was lured in with food (he was VERY skittish) and caught. They took him to a vet and found out he was chipped, and belonged to someone from Albuquerque NM!

Jeff Day and his father Harley run Precision Machine Racing Engines and were the sponsor of the NSS eliminator. Both Jeff and Harley have run NSS successfully for years. Jeff was racing his beautifully detailed 64 Plymouth Max Wedge in AA/SA.
![]() Brett Saurbaugh - Brother of Best Engineered Stocker Craig Saurbaugh - normally runs his 67 Vette powered by a 427 in Pure Stock. For this race Brett peeled the "P" off the window and ran A/S. While he was a little outmatched in class he drove his way to several round wins in the eliminator. Look for this burgundy Vette in Robz's video. You Stick Lovers will be smiling and replaying ![]()

Those that have raced the “New Cars” that run 150 MPH+ have experienced what it feels like to have one fly by at the stripe. For those that have not – check this out. My car runs 127 MPH – one of the higher speeds for an “Old Car” – and it feels like I’m standing still when they go by.
This is my Helmet-Cam video from the Quarter Final round of the Autometer Northern Class Nationals against Kevin Skinner in his FS/A 2014 Cobra Jet. Kevin actually red-lighted on this run – but I was so focused on shift points – and then on the finish line -- that I never looked at the scoreboard. I dumped when I realized Kevin was going to take the stripe and killed about .01-.02. Kevin ran 154 MPH on this run. Imagine what this feels like in your middle class Stocker that is running 112-115 MPH?

Congratulations Mike, as well as all of the other winners & runner-ups. We were all winners in sense by just being at this race. Ron the announcer outlined the event well. It just should have had a higher attendance.
Thank you very much to Loose Rocker, the track and everyone else associated with this event. Mike D., interesing little "bullseye" you have on the windshield!
