According to General Section 4.3 the max for steel plate flooring used as ballast is 18 gauge. 3/64 of an inch max.

then it has changed--- how about a spare tire OR you can use heavier cross members too----are you trying to make the additional weight "easily removable" or are you just trying to add additional weight to the car----FED 387
