I'm almost done with my new Olds 455 engine, any recommendations for oil pan and front timing cover gaskets? (Cork vs rubber) Should I use gaskets on both sides of the pan scraper, one side with Ultra Grey on the other, or just a lot of Ultra Grey on both sides? .

Marvin,
I use cork on one side & scraper with Ultra gray on both sides, on the other... Attach the scraper to the block first with a good thin bead , hold down over-night with oil pan bolts ...Make sure you rotate crank to be sure you have enough clearance & nothing is hitting ? Also, trim any extra Ultra gray stuff away and do the top edge of scraper and tighten down pan with another good bead of Ultra ... This is what I do on my Pontiac engines... Hope this helps...

Dave's method is similar to mine, although I use red hi temp RTV. The suggestion to use the metal core cork gasket is a good one as well.
On the timing cover I always use a gasket, and install it dry first to set my cam end play, and then use a super thin layer of the same red hi temp RTV for final assembly.

I also use the Fel-Pro Olds 350 Diesel pan gasket. Works very well.
