Who can help me design the hydraulics part, of a disc drum 3500 lb. drag car, that runs in the mid. 10's @ around 120-130 mph? I am looking for advice on M/C bore size, (i am going to use a Strange Eng. M/C) residual valves, prop valves, do I use the stock combo. valve? I am using the Aerospace ac-205 front disc kit, and the stock drums on the rear. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated, as the braking as I have it set up now is atrocious.

Bob, the best thing to do is ask Strange what master cylinder you need. The proportioning valve is probably going to need to be an adjustable from an aftermarket source like Wilwood. If the master cylinder is ABOVE the calipers and the wheel cylinders, residual valves aren't usually required. If you're buying or have bought brake parts from a company, then let them tell you what to use. Part of what you're paying for is their help and expertise on getting it all right and working safely. The brake system is no place for guess work or Rube Goldberg engineering.

I talked to Strange, but they always seem so rushed with their answers, and act like they just want to get you off the phone. I know they are busy, so I thought I would come to the guys that have been there, done that. Bob PS: Not a fan of Rube Goldberg engineering.......LOL |

If Strange doesn't seem willing to give you the information you need for a safe system, I would look at a different manufacturer. You don't need that crap.

Don't make it harder than it needs to be.
![]() How ya been Bob? If you don't remember: I have stock G-Body (metric) front calipers, 68-72 A-Body rear drum brakes, M/C from an '81 C-10 P/U manual disc/drum setup (aluminum/plastic), NO differential valve(s), no residual valve(s), nothing, and the car stops as well or better than it ever did at 126, holds better on the starting line footbraking, (which is admittedly weak anyway, the 9" x 2" drums aren't a hot setup for that) but the balance of the system is great, it will lock the rears slightly before the fronts when making a hard stop. ( I raced a short, short shutdown track for 2 years with this setup) The only trick was grabbing the M/C, pushrod, and rod retainer from a junk truck, only modification was the length of the pedal rod, but MAKE SURE the pedal rod is positively retained into the M/C, whatever you do....... Some of the 88-92 S-10 P/U truck stuff will fit in as well....... |

As you may know Dave. I have been chasing this "gremlin" (not the car) for quite sometime. :-(

Actually, I'm way behind on the saga.....I don't visit the old places where we used to run into Ed.
