Take a look at the sensor in the tank. It probably has something on it. After you clean it or replace it ( I would recommend replacing it). IF you dont have a scan tool to reset it. Sometimes you can disconnect the battery for 2-4 hours and it will reset. While you are at it take a look at the connector in the wiring harness and make sure it is not corroded. If it is you can get a new one from NAPA.
