Funny, that pic looks exactly like my garage tonight right down to the Cal Traks, jack stands and floor jack. I even have the passenger side door off my 68 coupe. Small world when you're having fun. Been working on it every day for a year now.

Don't use a C6 trans. You don't need it and it is just a horsepower hog.
Any good built C4 will easily handle a 390 stocker.
