What are the best BBC combinations to run in Super Stock for a 1969 Camaro? Thanks

Run the 396/375/400 with aluminum heads. Good solid combination.

Thanks for the help and advise Alan. Are the 840 cylinder heads any good for the 396/375 combo since the rating drops to 390 hp?

You'll spend a ton on cast iron heads in Super Stock, because Super Stock allows welding. Cast iron is extremely hard to weld, and once welded, hard to port and machine, and even harder to prevent from cracking. Most people will tell you there are two kinds of welded cast iron heads in Super Stock. The ones that have cracked and leak, and the ones that will. There are guys who run heads full of sealer, and drain the water every night at the races, filling it up the next day. It works, and some of them are real fast. But it is a lot of work. You'll spend more money on iron heads. I like iron heads in Stock, but not in Super Stock.

We run the 396/375/400 combination with aluminum heads. Car should be back together in two weeks, barring unforseen circumstances. We've been 9.50 @ 144 MPH, the 4 link was not working at all, and the valve springs were giving up. We're hoping to see decent improvements this time out.

Are you referring to the Edelbrock replacement heads as the aluminum heads? Any recommendations piston brands?

The Chevrolet "401" head, or the accepted Edelbrock. Same head.

We have CP pistons in the 396. I've had great luck with JE as well.
