Re: Stick racers.......step in please.
In a stick car you have to spin the rear tire 1 to 3 revolutions on the launch to go faster. if you are dead hooking it will just suck the wind out of the motor and it will try to play catch up the rest of the way and be slower

Re: Stick racers.......step in please.
I know that sounds weird to the auto trans guys but yes, you've got to spin the tires a little to get a good run. Obviously, the trick (if you want to win rounds) is to get it to spin the same amount each time.
Regarding starting time RPM, the best 60' that I ever had was a run where the two step malfunctioned. I normally leave at 8600, on that run the needle was off the end of the tach but boy, did it leave! If you want to 60', be brave and don't look at the tach. Obviously there is more to it than that but I don't think you can leave at 5000 and expect much in the way of 60' times. Jim Caughlin SS 6019 |

Re: Stick racers.......step in please.
very informative lessons here.
When I ran my chevelle as a stick I always tried to come out at a lower rpm like 350, car never worked as it was just bogging along. no torque multiplycation like the auto in the car now. I always tried to dead hook it and broke first gear twice lugging it in the torque band fighting for traction. autos have torque multiplycation and get up on the tire easier if I'm explaining/understanding right. sticks need whell speed to get the car going and get it from specific amounts of tire slip.
