Identify This Crank

So I ordered this forged 4340 Eagle crank from an on-line dealer I won't mention at this point. The box label is 430230015090 which is the forged crank for sbf 302. The one in the box has 30230005090 - c stamped on the end. My machinist says It's cast and they insist it's the forged one I ordered and the number on the crank is a UPC code and not related to the box label.

Who's right? My machinist has a good reputation.

C means standard , Weight 4340 crankshaft. Google the part number and the Info will come up.

Does it have the think parting line that most cast cranks have?

They remove the parting line on their cranks in the prep process, at least on all of the cranks I purchased from them.

Only the forged 302 crank has the rod length (5.090) in the part number.

I did Google it. This thread comes up in the search now...

I sent the photo to Eagle and they said the crank is cast. The "C" in the part number stands for cast. I ordered this one:

The 300 is the stroke and the 5090 is the rod length. That's all they have in common.

It would be a lot easier to tell with a picture taken from a little further away but I would trust what Eagle says. I have used a fair number of their cranks and have found some unusual part numbers. Its pretty easy to tell the cast from the forged ones from a little further away

Unfortunately all of the steel, good and bad, seems to come from China these days

Since the crank was most probably already in the box at the warehouse in Ohio, someone or some machine made the mistake of boxing the wrong crank or just using the wrong label. All I expect the seller to do is make it right.

Brian: Thanks for the pic. I wondered if they put an identifier on forged cranks, too. That's what mine is supposed to look like.

BTW, I saw Alan at the last Test nTune at Pacific Raceway and he bought that Chevy Cavalier he was talking about last year. Put his old motor in it and ran a 9.40 at 145 something. GT/AA.
