There is the key. What has been done/changed since the last time it ran properly? You stated this is a new combination...did you by any chance add/change any timing related or ignition components?

Just engine combo long block? Went from a 355 to a 406. Same Heads Intake and Carb for the last 15 years.

My point was carb's don't just go bad/quit working overnight. Unless it has sit idle for a very long time with old fuel I would tend to look elsewhere first. Someone suggested earlier trying another carb for effect...way less time consuming and a quick way to eliminate one potential area.

I had the same issue with a 750dp on my wagon. It turned out to be the transfer slot on the secondary's. I bought an adjustable 1 to 1 linkage for the carb. While it look to be adjusted correctly on the bench but when I attached the quick disconnect linkage to the carb it pulled the secondary butterflies just enough to cover the transfer slot. I put the original bent metal part back on problem was corrected. Good luck.
