Equalize your back transfer slots as so they are close to the front. In other words open up your year blades ,so you can close your front. You may even need to drill bypass holes in the blades.
Showing too much transfer slot can and likely will give you hard starting issues once the engine has had some heat in it. |

with his big cam and tight converter, i would bet he will need to drill the throttle blades if not already done.

it's best to setup the carb properly first. THEN if the problem is still there, drill the throttle blades and reset the idle mixture screws, followed by the idle screw.

There is the key. What has been done/changed since the last time it ran properly? You stated this is a new combination...did you by any chance add/change any timing related or ignition components?
