Looks like 1969 (based on Landy's Charger it the other lane) at Great Lakes Dragway.
What a really cool pic!! I am envisioning a Saturday night SS race with all of the touring guys of the time: Landy, Sox, Jenkins, etc... and a local Dart is taking on Landy here. |

That is the Hemi Dart from Balzekas Dodge out of Chicago, Illinois.
A 'rival' Dodge Dealership of Grand-Spaulding Dodge. The track.........Great Lakes Dragaway {Union Grove, Wisconsin} is just North of Chicago, Illinois. Balzekas Hemi Dart, not to be confused with Larry Griffith's Hemi Dart. ![]() Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 09-30-2013 at 05:42 PM. |

I think the 'above' photo was from sometime in late-May 1969,
and was part of a North-Central Super/Stock Meet that was usually held before the Springnationals in June. You can still see the '2' 1969 NHRA Winternational Decals on the front window of Dick Landy's Charger R/T. Below...... This was Dick Landy's....... 'Flyin Wedge' which was a 1969 Charger R/T with a 440 Engine, that ran against the Balzekas Hemi Dart. In 1969, it was classed in SS/I or SS/IA {9.50 - 9.99 Wt/Hp} as Dick swiched back and forth with Transmissionsin at NHRA Events. In AHRA, Dick would pop on the Fiberglass Hood Scoop 'Hood', and run different Intake and Carburetor systems. ![]() Last edited by Paul Ceasrine; 10-01-2013 at 01:53 AM. |

Paul
My memory could be getting weak but I thought SS/H was as low as the classes went until 1972. SS/H was 9.5 and heavier. I remember the charger in E with a hemi, and I saw a photo recently with SS/F on the window but don't know what engine. That would have been 8.5 class
