I understand time can be an issue at some of the big races but at least weigh and check fuel for the guys who had a heads up, we are not talking about a lot of cars. Most of us assume we are going to be checked but that's not the point.

Yes Toby.... I would have said the same for Herbie.... (I'm betting it was a complete accident that he came up light).... he knew he was getting scaled after that round (most likely

I will tell you how it actually happened...we beat Downing at 4 cars and immediately went to my trailer to pull some weight and literally 10 minutes after I ran I was back on the scales and was 10 over. I even joked with the scale guy if I should pull 5 more...he said, "I am not giving you advice on that" and we laughed. I contemplated back at the pits pulling 2.5-5 lbs but knew it wouldn't make a diff and elected not to. We did pull 1/2 qt of oil and 1/2 qt of gear oil and if that adds up to 10+ lbs my math skills are awful! We knew our opponent should outrun us and were just hoping for a miracle (holeshot, spin or breakage) I still don't know what happened to Mr. McGinley's car but it did not make a run that anyone expected and that was lucky on our part. I know I was legal and I don't care if anyone believes me because that is irrelevant . NHRA told me to go ahead for the parade and I followed what they told me after I asked 3 or 4 times....are you sure???? Yes I wished we would have weighed and fuel checked just to ease everyone's minds and I hope in the future when we have a Headsup race that they weigh and fuel check EVERYONE....EVERYTIME.
I had a blast at Indy as always and want to thank DJ Pires and family for the slick 72 Nova, Chick Ross and family for carrying the car, My wife Katie, Ryan Mangus, Steve Glenn, Francis Ross, my family for their support and all the calls, texts and emails meant alot! And anyone else that helped push the car from our pits to the burnout box! Thank you also to our great supporters: Lucas Oil, Hoosier tire, Jegs, K&N, Huntsville Engine and Plourd Racing Products. Seeya in Charlotte! PS- I was weighed in Class E1 when I finally got in the show and was legal...and oh ya...ran .07 better than the finals.... |

Brad, I don't think anyone really believes you were light or had bad fuel. They just think NHRA was completely wrong for not checking the winners. After all the praising of sportsman racing done at Indy by the higher ups all week long, the decision to parade the winners in front of the fans should not have taken precedence over standard tech procedures. In other words...the "show" meant more to NHRA than verifying that the winners were legal.

A bunch of years ago, I was involved in a race where the person, may he RIP, won a round and I lost. We WERE doing scale and fuel check and he BYPASSED BOTH. I sat and waited til the end of the line and PASSED scale and Fuel check.
I was NOT reinstated after this other racers failure to comply with the rules, nor did the racer return AFTER driving right by the other 20 or so racers in line. An hour later the race was rained out. |

First off...Congratulations to Brad on your win
Now we can talk about the problem at hand....... NHRA is the problem and not the racers, they did their job and NHRA did not do their job......... NHRA has lost its compass since the passing of Wally Parks... NHRA is not dedicated to safety or performance.... NHRA spends its resources by ejecting paying customers/participants from the stating lanes for taking photos that would ultimately benefit NHRA... NHRA just doesn't care about or understand the people who have supported them for decades.. NHRA is the best game in town, but they are doing their best to commit suicide... NHRA doesn’t have a plan for sportsman racers; they just use us to accommodate the PRO show.... NHRA will run out of PRO's, even FORD said by their actions that the PRO's are history... NHRA might reinstate the status of sportsman after the PRO's are gone.... NHRA might have to restructure themselves into a sportsman friendly business... NHRA is a business..... NHRA should just throw out the Race Procedures Manual & Rule Book... NHRA is becoming a caricature of itself... Just my opinion, for what it’s worth, Bob
