I forgot about Mez. pumps being setup that way that is good question,I probaly would talk to tech, but I believe the way the wording is it was to prevent electric pumps/drives,however it does'nt say you can't have one.
The way the wording is I think the Mez. pump would fit the rules,if it does I need to find a pump like that for small block chevrolet. Maybe Jim Woods,Danny Waters,or Terry Bell will chime in on this. Mike Taylor 3601 |

Thanks Mike. That's a good idea about contacting someone in the know and asking. I've found a plug and play device on the Corvette forum that installs in 15 minutes and allows normal "street" operation of the fans and the ability to run them anytime also by pressing a button on a key fob. In my mind, and looking at the wording of the rule book, the Meziere pump is not different as going down to NAPA and buying a replacement pump as it still runs all of the factory belts but it also allows manual operation at the flip of a switch. Boy, if it was legal, that would be the way (with the manual fan switch) to regulate the water temperature even if is was going to be 180 as Ed suggested.

Scott, you don't have to change thermostats to test the temp difference, you can control it with the fans. If it likes it you can change it then.

Mike Baker said no to the Electric Water Pump on Pure Stockers.
Even though some of our b-Body racers run them full time on the street. For safety have a new one in the box in case of failure. But seem reliable nobody having any problems. As for the fans. I use the Relays GM has in the fuse box. Switching them with a pair of switches on my dash. In an emergency can use a Bic Pen Cap to manually switch the fans. Between runs the fans are on and ice the intake. Use a Honda 2000 generator and Battery charger and using an Optima. After the run the charger is on 30amps. 10amp for a few minutes after turning fans off. Let it rest at 3amps. Going to add a Alternator cut off switch for competition. Car will lost a full 2 tenths if the Alternator is charging during a run. Cooler days car will cool down quicker. Do need more gauges for monitoring temps. 2tenths doesn't make sense. I have tested that a lot. Your possibly too rich. Lower voltage slows injector opening, thus leans the car. You can actually turn the alternator off @ WOT with the factory LT1 PCM. It should not change more than 5 hundredths at the very most with the alternator off or on.

At Pittsburgh it was hot and miserable. Between fully cool and hot and the Alternator running, 2 tenths difference. Maybe right with just the alternator running. Dialed in accordingly until the next competition run. The alternator ran to charge the battery from cooling the car down with the fans. Same thing happened in Richmond. Cannot get car cool enough to stay consistent without a electric water pump. The Honda 2000 has an 8 amp charger. It was not enough to prevent draining the battery. Now bringing the Battery Charger. Would be on equal footing if the car had an electric water pump. 8 minute cool down. But have a plan for that. D Last edited by Dan Fahey; 08-09-2013 at 09:05 AM. |

2 tenth=you have, or are doing, something wrong. I have never seen pulling the by, with an electric water pump, make 2 tenths. That is killing both the alternator and power steering pump. Might try leaning it down with the alternator working. Hard to imagine, however. being rich enough to find 2 tenths.
You might think about a chiller with the plug-in fittings with the connector in a radiator hose for between round cool downs between rounds? You can buy them, but most of us make them from a small ice chest with a 12 volt sump pump.

If Jeff Warren says the air/fuel is OK, it's OK. I don't think you will find anybody else with a V8 seeing 2 tenths difference with the alternator if the battery is properly charged before the run. Makes no sense at all. I wouldn't even tell it. LOL

I cool my car no problem have 2 13'' elec fans and stock belt driven pump, just run fans few minutes when radiator feels cool by touch, start engine and exchange water from radiator to block, shut off and run fans till radiator is cool again, my car hardly ever gets above 180 usaully cool back to 120 or so.
I try to cool to a temp I can get to every round. Mike Taylor 3601 |
