If you have to use this same intake it is definately a minus.
We are running a 402 which is the same as the 396 CI.
CP and Venolia have a good piston and I was told possibly Diamond will soon be supplying a BB Chevy Piston. We use Diamond push rods (nice merchandise).
I think Dan Fletcher runs a 396/325 in his Camaro and doesn't do too bad.
I do see you having any problems with running .80-.90 under the index.
Diamond has the 396/375 hp pistons already approved. 396/350/325 are still pending.
