My pleasure Jim. I'm doing this "tour" for that exact reason. After the build tour, I think I'll take a bunch of pictures of my car that will show the differences from a production Dart compared to a Hurst built LO Dart.

It has been awhile since you've been north of the 49th parallel isn't it?? he,he,he

Next chapter for my build is the carbs.

these cars originally were supplied with two 770 CFM vacuum secondary carbs, which for the most part, are good units out of the box, but, there is room for improvement. I'm not an out of the box kind of person, so I got together with a good friend of mine who has a flow bench & over 40 years of experience in modifing Holleys.
Now, I'm sure some people might get bent out of shape with me modifing original 68 Super Stock Hemi carbs,so, let me say these are reproductions. The 1968 originals are freshly restored, & safely packed away in boxes under my bench. I did screw the original 1968 tags onto these tho.

Visually a person really needs to know their Holleys to see the changes that were made to these carbs. That was the whole intent.



They have been flow balanced & each flow 897cfm now. The original straight boosters have been replaced with "dog leg" style of boosters. This places the booster into the main stream of the fast air in the middle of the venturies rather than above, which means they recieve a much better signal there. The shooters have been replaced with tube style for the same reason. All the pressed in air bleeds have been replaced with screw in to enable better tuning capabilities.





On the original style of vacuum secondary carbs, including these, the secondary jetting is a replacable plate, rather than changing the screw in style of jets. A Real PITA when tuning. So, I installed metering blocks with screw in jets. All the metering blocks have been drilled & tapped with replaceable bleeds in them also. You will also notice idle mixture screws have been installed on the secondaries. Now there's 8 idle mixture screws. these work great for fine tuning. An 1/8 of a turn makes a huge difference on each one. This things throttle response is astounding. It's instant, even from idle under load. I'm sure it rivals that of a modern fuel injected engine.
These carbs would be illegal in class style of Super Stock racing, but there's other things on this car that are the same way.
Is it excesive? Yes it is, but makes for a helluva street driven hot rod
