Not withstanding the satisfaction and accomplishment that can accrue through this type of project.
The "dime rocket" can be unusual and different which is part of the appeal.moreover, this type of machine can be used as a stock eliminator class race car and/or as a bracket catagory race car without the burdens and concerns of wearing out an expensive, sophisticated techno motor and transmission.
This type of car can be maintained with out highly specialized parts and can be transported to the race track on a simple, open style trailer.
While some may say that there are disadvantages to racing a "slow" car,i believe that given all of the variables involved in drag racing the possibility of going rounds and winning races cannot be discounted using this type of car.
Further, given the overall investment of time and money the downsides are greatly reduced.
In closing there remains some major considerations.
And difficult questions to answer as they are basic and personal.-do you like and relate to this type of race car and is the performance range what you seek?.
Run the numbers and search your motivations, the drag racing answer will come.
Umm, yeah, OK. A little too highbrow for me, I'll see if I can get Prof. Dave to translate it. I think that it means that if you have the want and means to race a new Mustang then the "Dime Rocket" deal probably ain't for you.
On a lighter note, I've mounted up a few sets of front tires of different diameters(26,27.5,29) and if I can get to The Beav this weekend I'm going to be comparing them for the differences in RT and ET. It could be interesting!

I've done this kind of testing on mid 10-sec to high 11-sec cars. 2" in tire height will get you roughly .012-.015 in R/T, but will have much less effect on ET, probably half that. 2.5" was about .018. With the slower car, you might see slightly more.

Will a 3" change in tire height throw off your alignment job or make a 4-corner scale weight distribution change (for better or worse) in any meaningful way?

What the fudge are you talking about matco man, this is drag racing, drag what you drugged out of your garage and race. Billy great job, you proved you could race at an affordable cost, be competitive and gone rounds at a Divisional race, I know of a couple of Cj,CoPo and drag packs that are quite envious of your progress. maybe you will start a revolution, I can see now The Patina Nationals(Maybe Micheal could use the title)coming soon to a town near you.Claude

I went to The Beav yesterday with 3 sets of front tires to see what I could learn from it. The wind was terrible and moving all around so 1/4 mile times and MPHs were all over and there weren't any 330s to boot!
I'm not a machine like Beardie, just a crazy old man trying to learn something so I made all of my runs "bottom bulbing". At any rate, I had 23, 27.5 and 29 inch dia. tires for my test and came to the conclusion that the RTs with the 23s were .009 quicker that the 27.5s and the 27.5s were .008 quicker than the 29s. The one thing that is throwing me for a loop with this is that the 60 ft times were quicker by .024 with the 23s than they were with the 29s with the 27.5s .005 quicker than the 29s! The car was really low in the front with the 23s and it does have an airdam so maybe that had something to do with it? The 1/8 mile times were .037 better with the 29s that with the 23s which I could see. As usual, any insight will be appreciated!
One thing that I AM going to do to this thing before I bring it out again will be to find some way to make a coil spring car react more like a leaf spring car! I'm in a very awkward place on the tree right now with it.

Well, other than slowing down the lift rate and killing some frontend travel, I didn't have any time this week to do anything. I did manage to get it to a comfortable spot on the tree where I'm at least mid to high .040s. Not good but better. I really need to find some time to address the rear suspension. I'm also getting really bored so I'm going to start throwing some parts at this thing the next time that i take it out!

Would air bags help with the launch? Maybe a cheap set of air shocks?

Got air shocks. If I don't have the time to get creative this week I'll probably stick a set of no-hop bars on it.
