“2013 NHRA Rule Amendments SECTION 20: General Regulations, Engine: 1,1.3 Exhaust (Page 3) last update 2/4/2013. Effective Jan 1, 2014, removable multi-piece exhaust collectors/stacks must be securely fastened with an NHRA accepted header tether, such as Lokar’s 1400009 or 1401009 to prevent loss of collector/stacks during competition.”

rediculous... Is there that many guys, who cant keep their collectors from coming off, to warrant something like this? My collectors have 2 tabs, per collector, with bolts, that will keep them from coming off... never had a problem... Jam nuts will cure this problem, not some costly device....

I had a collector come off at Phoenix. Both tabs were still bolted together and on the tubes. The collector material gave out and the tab just ripped out. I look at the car every race, but missed the cracks. This might not be a bad rule.

I had a collector come off a few years ago, banged it up and took a nick out of the slick.
The CURIOUS thing about this rule is as soon as it was published somebody immedeately had an approved apparatus to fix the "problem"! Hate to do it to the fresh NITROPLATE but I will weld the collectors on also! |

I had one come off at Indy a few years ago, but the breather tube kept it from flying off. Does that count as a tether??? LOL.

A couple yeas back, I was running a Modified car in Time Trials at the US Nationals and his collector came off in the traps. I was 133 mph,he was 150 plus. He was 6-8 car lengths ahead of me and his collector spit out from under his drivers door area. It was spiraling and coming strait at me. I was just hoping it did not start going end for end and go through my windshield. I ran over it with both right side tires and after the run I looked under the car. It had put huge dent in the frame, and right beside the dent, was the braided fuel lines.Missed them by less than a 1/2 inch.He spent all day at a local muffler shop trying to repair the flatted and twisted collector so he could continue to race.
