I had one that twisted after 5 years, but since then, no. I guess it has been about 4-5 seasons. We keep getting lighter on the clutch and running the lighter class so that might be part of it.
I would love to do a full on upgrade. Just not in the budget yet.
We have 33 splines, lightened flange, 5/8 Ti studs. Lightened steel spool.
In E stick, 2910 lbs. D stick 2775 or 2900 depending upon the engine combo.

33 spline lightened flange for me stick car too 7000 to 7500 rpm launch, over 3400 lbs. With todays clutches, parts don't break as much.

I have never broken one. But I, along with a number of SS stick shift racers have twisted them 2 splines. Strange said they would replace them if they twisted 3 splines, but that's not the real problem. I used to use an axle puller to get them out and a sledge hammer to get them back in. And if you changed gear ratios, you were screwed as the spool would move slightly to the left or right.

The last time that happened to me, I said enough was enough. I ordered all new Mark Williams axles and spools and they were a dream. You could pull them out using two fingers on each side of the flange and put them back with just a bump from the palm of your hand. No comparison.

More than once I've had to change rear ends between rounds. With MW components it's a dream. With Strange axles..... no way.

I will, but read them to Gary first and I bet you can figure it out after he calms down.

X2 I had the same situation on my car.I twisted two sets of axles from Strange. The first set were 31 spline, and I blamed myself for that one.I stepped up to 33 splines and twisted them also. Both sets moved about 1 1/2 -2 splines. This was when my car was in bracket mode. (stick shift small block).Strange refused to offer any help.I purchased Mark Williams axles cut to fit the splines in the Strange spool and never looked back.

33 spline. rifle drilled, small block, modified, clutch car, only, haven't ran it yet. But I've used nothing but 33 spline in clutch for mods, and never broke one. And don't respond, "you need more power," Ha.

Randy,

Who's axles are you using? Does anyone have a weight comparison, lightened vs non-lightened? My old junk is Strange Engineering, never hurt axles just RP, and trans. 33's was the only thing available in the 90's for the 8.8

Moser rifle drilled, strange regular. 3100 lbs, 700 hp. no probems ever so far. They are. I believe a shade lighter, when drilled, then 31's.

Also, no doubt the best axie, bar none, is Mark Williams. But I already had a strange spool set-up, so I went with strange, and, or moser. Moser is the only one who will drill 33's. Steve run's all Mark williams in the cobalt, 40 spline drilled. I just use the 33's because I have 3 center sections set up that way. Again, I personally have had no real problems of breakage, but strange does twist a bit.
