My third car, a '69 Camaro SS 396-325, 4-speed, posi, console w/guages, ZL-2 hood package, deluxe interior w/Strato bucket seats, Marina blue w/black interior. The car was the most enjoyable car I ever owned.

Great topic!
For me it was a 1970 Chevelle I had when I was in my early 20's, After building a 650hp oval port 454, M 21, Centerforce clutch, I drove it down the street with open headers to the muffler shop. When the car was done I idled it out onto the street, revved her up, dumped the clutch and started rowing the gears. About the time I slammed it in 3rd, the valve guide hung a valve, making noises like it was coming UN-hinged. I pushed in the clutch and shut the key off! Steering wheel locked! Skidding, sliding, I went off the street and drove right between my buddies body shop and his huge sign! I'm sure if it happened to me to day I would have a heart attack. Heart rate was well past the red line! This was a fun car, it was the reason I bought my first open car trailer. I broke the darn thing every time I took it to the track. I had a wrecking yard worth of broken 4 speeds, twisted drive shafts, you name it. I learn a lot and sold it for a real race car....... only problem is it started this racing bug that I have yet to get rid of! Last edited by Tom Nolan; 12-11-2012 at 12:32 PM. Reason: spelling |

I bought a red 340HP split window in November '62, two weeks before I turned 21.
The only reason I'd like it back would be to sell it. It was a fun ride but one Corvette was enough. |

I wish I had my 1970 Plymouth Cuda Convertable back. It was nothing real special as it was an origonal Slant 6 car. But when I bought it, it had a 440-6 pack and a 4-speed in it. I sold it just before the market took off in the early 2000s.

This was my first race car....and I haven't had many. In a moment of domestic panic it was sacrificed - would still be the ride today if I hadn't taken leave of my senses.
![]() It was a legit Shelby; I can still rattle off the vin# and unit #. Sigh..... ![]()

Met this girl in high school she had a 1976 Pontiac Lemans Sport. We went out for 6 years, and were gonna get married. I started fixing the car, started with a 350 2 barrel, A/C, blue on blue. When she left to go back to PA cause she got cold feet, 455, TH350, converter, supercomp headers, good exhaust, 4.10 gears, she raced it more than I did. Still talk to the girl, but the car is long gone.... that car turned me onto Pontiacs and been with them ever since. Would LOVE to find another, big car, lots of room, had soooooo much fun in that car. hmmmmmmm maybe something is on craigslist

Ooooooh.... reminds me of the 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix LJ with 455 and posi rear end. The dealer had bought it for his wife. But she wanted something bigger (hope she meant car....) Anyway it was silver with a red interior, red pinstripes, electric sun roof, the half vinyl top, and power everything. And I got a great buy on it, because it coudn't be sold as new.....
The car was a monster until I fell asleep one night driving home and I ended up bending the frame.... Never again quite the same. And I had to trade it on a 1980 Grand Prix that was a total bunch of junk. My wife had a 1974 Grand Prix 455 that wouldn't go up a hill without help, until Arlen Vanke fixed it. But the 76 was the perfect blend of beauty, power, and luxury. Arguably one of the last muscle cars. I always have regretted putting it into a ditch... Alcohol, I must unfortunately admit was involved.... David The New Hemi Guy Last edited by NewHemi; 12-11-2012 at 04:46 PM. |
