I think what Jeff wanted to know was more about any records that were set, not how the racing itself went.

Only one I know of was the SS/GS record set by Art Leong's FWD Neon. 12.69. Jim

Gary Summers was taking both a stocker and a superstocker apart. I know Captain Jack was tearing down too. Don't know about any others I was on the way to Orlando.
I understand the Mustang tore down but did not run. Don't know which class.

Although there is no qualifying at an open there is always a sheet hanging on the NHRA trailer. With all the interest and thousands invested by racers why is it impossible to post that sheet. I looked at the sheets at the Dutch this year and would have taken a picture of them if I knew it was the last time I would ever see them. I spoke with a SS racer in the staging lanes and we planned to exchange phone Nos later in the pits but I never found him and can't remember his name.

there was a silver mustang (could have been the varsity mustang?) i thinjk it was an a/sa. Sorry they are cool and all but i got all confused...cause they all look the same!!!!

And there was a cool late fifties/ early sixties full size chevy wagon 283 auto stocker. He had record holder stickers dating from the 80's all down the quarter panels. did the tear down and re-install by himself, got it back up a running just before dark. well done man.

the track was seriously slippery. the hemi cars left after a couple of runs spinning in the 50's. There was a crazy launching new stang stick car that seemed like he has 9:1 gears in the rear it wouldnt even react it spun so bad!

i saw a U/SA dodge spin...

the thunderbird ss stick car was awesome, i think he was hasing the tires for the first ten feet then was near verticle each pass.

there were many R's on windows but only a couple that i saw in tear down.

by the third round of qualifying walking the lanes out of the groove was stickier than in the groove. it was my first NHRA event, and i left there a bit disappointed to say the least.

apologies that i cant add the names, you just should been there! LOL

...and thank you to Mrs. Lewis for the excellent meals, the fijitas were the best i have ever had.

At least we had the PRI show to entertain us!

Ian

art leong 1st in barn, then summers and turners mustangs ss & stock, then me then holbrooks crew tore down a SS and a Stk mustang and i think a third one saturday !

air wasnt great about 1000 foot and pesky 4-6mph headwind... we didnt get to go down friday when it was pretty good 200 & no headwind the bracket cars and .90 cars went out first we went about 12:45

and yeah if ya think one man teardown is tough, the 15oo mile solo trip sucked, did that for belle rose i need some unemployed friends !!!!!!!!!!
and by the way ...25 years ago we set the first NHRA record in the wagon T/SA at indy in 1987 !!!!!!

joe & son were there but spun about 200 foot... barton was pedalling one like a funny car.

Jim when I picked up the car today. Some guy asked me, how many of those darn Neons I had in that trailer? He said every time he looked at the track there was a neon going down it. LOL. I told him he would have seen more if I didn't get a flat on the truck on the way down, plus they shut it down for 45 minutes to re-prep the starting line.
I only got 9 runs in that day. Wait it was actually 10. LOL
I used almost 5 gallons of C12

From what I heard you were about the only one who could hook on that track. Glad I went to the PRI instead! Jim

The scheduling conflict with the PRI Show made this difficult for me, because the original timeline for the Combo on Saturday showed NO time-trials, just first round at 0900. I had decided to do the show on Thursday and the race on Friday and Saturday, which was easier for me at the time. I would have preferred all three days at Gainesville, but this was my first (and now last) PRI at Orlando. I wish I had more time to visit with everyone.

Not really sure why the 'wagon didn't run better, but I'll figure that out next year. Changed a few things for this race and they didn't work! I hadn't been to Gainesville in 22 years, so I was looking forward to actually racing here. The event staff seemed to spend a great deal of time prepping the track, and I know most of the high-horsepower cars had traction issues, but it wasn't because the crew didn't make an effort.

I had a great time! The 1400 mile round-trip will finish on Tuesday (I hope!), and other than some aggravating issues with the Suburban, it's been uneventful. I must be a glutton for punishment, but I'm looking forward to doing this again in the not-too-distant future.
