S mith Machine was making the Schubeck style lifters the last time I heard. My 2 cents about them is there are better ( safer ) ways to go.

Anyone who is building a new engine should investigate tool steel lifters. They will not come apart and cause extensive internal engine damage. Hopefully, the people at Smith lifters can find the reason why their product is failing and correct the problem.

Who makes the tool steel lifters? I've heard about them and don't have a recommended brand name. Will they work with that steel cam I have?

Greg, Trend and PPPC are a start. Depending on the pressure over the nose of the cam you can get recommendations. I just recently read on another forum concerning these lifters. Mike Jones (camking) of Jones cams can point you in the right direction. Ferrea also markets a tool steel lifter. Depending on your core there are DLC and nitride coatings.
