OK...I really think the tread and rim should be in zen with one another, equally disbursing the load. I think most choose 8" or 10" because a 9" is not commonly available.

I never actually compared the two sizes, but I've always been under the impression that with a wider rim, you can run more air pressure, which stabilizes the sidewalls more, while still achieving a full-width footprint. I've always used 10" rims with my 9" Hoosier slicks.

I use 8.5 " rims on my 30 X 9 's stick combo(Convo Pros).How's that for a compromise

It depends on the tire company. In the past I have run just about every brand of tire. Most worked better on 10inch wheels. The M&H and Toyo's liked 8 inch. This is on a stick car with bias tires.

Hoosier advised me to run 10" rims with their 9x30's.
