True, But some of us still want to play. I'm choosing to play just not how NHRA say's I have too. I only brought the stocker out 4 times this year and only ran stock once (IHRA) The other weekends were old time drags or special meets. At least some of us have bracket racing to fall back on. Maybe next year I'll play at some of the Nostalgia type races more, they are alot fun anyways, :-)

Sorry. I'm a fan of the sport. BUT the point rings true. That major point... RECOGNITION. It's not just National Dragster. It's "LIVE from" on ClassRacer, it's Live Timing/Audio/Video, it's Drag Racing Action magazine, it's Drag Review. Used to be TV coverage on IHRA. I think the series that REALLY work hard on the providing timely real coverage and human interest stories of their events are the ones that will rise to the top. If nobody knew about a Wally, nobody would care if they won one. It's coveted because of its history and the recognition that goes with it.

I can also tell you one of my close friends Disco Dean Karns won the $10k today and almost the $5k tonight going out in the 7th round!

Back to the lecture at hand... Wait. Probably not a lot of Doctor Dre fans in this thread.

Anyway. I guess us junkies are screwed! Maybe if I ever win a Wally (especially not in my fwd turbo car (cause we know how much respect ill actually get for that)) Ill be able to quit NHRA Cold Turkey!

Guess you have to decide what's important to you: A hunk of metal called a "Wally", or the respect, admiration, and recognition from your peers along with your own personal satisfaction and sense of accomplishment.

In my opinion, it's what's behind the trophy and *how* you win it more than the trophy itself.

$.02,

Exclamation Re: No really. What are NHRA racers going to do?

after 34 years im not a current member.
we were in a tornado when wally died, short spurts of destruction , since then its a hurricane, long period of destruction... i hate what they have done to my sport.

i only hope the sponsors like nitro plate realize the benefit of putting thier cash directly into class racing like they did with thier combos this year. they developed a true realtionship with us without NHRA milking them for the glendora payroll... next we need a sportsman circuit of events WITH CREDIBLE TECH (and a 5 year moratorium on rule changes) with the sponsorship of select intelligent manufacturers who want this type of relationship with us

i will never get anything coated anywhere but nitro plate > hear that sponsors.

you see jim this deal only need sponsors and racers > WE DONT NEED NHRA.

captain jack

if we dont get a guaranteed moratorium on rule changes we are done, why would anyone spend thier hard earned (well mine is hard earned) cash to build a car that at any given whim or idiots request could be useless ?????????

Problem is the NHRA has their "Thumb" on the majority of the decent race tracks and they will not allow someone to move in. Just ask ADR, Alex D., and the defunt new AHRA.

I gotta be honest. Yea I want that hunk of metal and the little bit of respect that is still left with 60 years of racing.... But really its the people, comradery, tradition etc. Even with the people that have quit its stil the largest car count in sportsman racing aside from big bucks brackets. I'm not usually one to follow my peers. But at this point in my racing I'm not jumping ship till the majority does lol.

ADRL? How many stockers and super stockers you think they will allow? It will be interesting to see if they even exist next year since the Sheik is not tossing baskets of cash around anymore.

I would like to see the IHRA with a bigger piece of the pie around here, but they just can't hold on to any tracks for too long.
