I used to drool over that 61 Ventura when I went to Capitol. He used to race a beautiful baby blue 61 SD Catalina station wagon also.
Our family loved the 61.We always went to the races as a family and we all had certain things we did to the car after we got to the track since Dad always drove the car to the strip, except when they went to Indy.61 is still the same blue and Mike was also talking to me about the wagon you mentioned.

I believe this was the first ever Husband ,Wife team that both Won at the Indy Nationals. The NHRA would not allow women to compete at Indy in 61,so my Dad drove the car and won, that did not settle well with Mom so she wrote letters to every paper,tv show, etc.,until NHRA AGREED TO ALLOW WOMEN to compete at National events like Indy.

Watched him race the wagon a lot at Capitol and Aquasco. Saw it out run many GTO's heads up in time trials back in around 1965. Next time you talk to him mention that I knew Sam Samuels, Johnny Walker (who bought the 60 SD of Sam's), Pop Kennedy, Joe Perzan, Bob Maxey, Mousie Brown if you remember. They all pitted together at Aquasco.

Hey Steve, Jay Reichenthal here..I remember you telling me about the Pontiac and your parents while standing around the staging lanes at LACR.
I'm racing a new 5.0 Mustang at Cecil County and Maple Grove and I see you still have the trusty Camaro.
Take care.

Yes, "Christmas tree" starts were initiated in 1964 in most areas, as I recall.
