I had never heard of the man at the time but quickly realized what a jewel he was and was amazed at the things he'd seen and done. We invited him to dinner that first evening and it was one of those times when you look back and wish you'd had a tape recorder lying on the table. No, not to blackmail some of the people in the stories but just to be able to remember even half of the stories he told Woody just kept going and going and before it was over I was sore from laughing. He was a giant in the golden years of our sport. It's a real shame that no one ever took the opportunity to interview him at length for the history he lived. |

I am glad to have been able to call him my friend. We spent almost every Thursday evening with a few friends from the local speed shop (Speed Unlimited near Andrews AFB in Md.) and just shot the "Bull" about racing until the resturant/bar closed.

That Volvo was and still is owned Ron Morehead (Dad to Ron and lincoln) car. That was a fast car for what it had and I saw it last year at the Dover Drag strip reunion. Great car from the Morehead family.
