Default Re: Attention Jim Waibel Broken Down in North Florida

Well, was not going to say anymore, however this last post by rowdyboys31 is greatly inaccurate. I am about the truth and totally resent the lies stated in this response!

Facts are:

1) RHS (who was my sponser) supplied the heads and they are the only ones who did all the work. Waibel never/ever had any heads from me nor did he work on any of my heads. This would have been in voilation with my racing contract with RHS .

2) Waibel only did the machine work on the short block and did the assembly.

3) I supplied all the parts, I. E. pistons, rods, crank, brgs, and crank.

4) The pistons/rod assemblies where supplied to me by Dale Smith in engineering that where specially machined with the "V notch" machined on the opposite side of the piston, thus changing " pin inclination" so I could run them backwards, thus increasing piston speed, resulting in more horsepower, and "during teardown, they would pass tech".

5) I never "whined". I was always talked to Waibel and no one else. I believed in Waibel as a team member even during the year and 1/2 when everyone who knew I had Waibel's decal on my car, hearing all of the horror stories of how they got screwed, I stuck with Waibel, not believing them.

6) Besides the report from Troxel on what was done to a short block done by Waibel, which Waibel did not know about, prior to this time during the Gator Nats I went down to Lakeland, FL on Sat. night to race as they had a $250 to win Stock/Super Stock combo race, which I won (BTW: I had just recently installed Troxel's short block). On the way back to Gainesville I had a really bad towing accident that destroyed my tow vehicle and my race car came off the trailer. Since I was only just a few miles from Lakeland, I did not know who to call, so I called Waibel as I knew he had a tow truck. Well long story short I called him to come pick the race car up and his exact words were " no problem it should be about $100 dollars". I said "Ok". I called a few weeks later that I was coming to pick it up. He said " It will now be $250 dollars". Now this was 1976 and that was a lot of money. I said "why so much"? He said " I have been thinking, I did your short blocks to cheap and my dog is tied up to your trailer, if you do not pay me, I will put a mechanics lien against it and it will be mine after 30 days". I asked him to give me a few weeks to raise the $$ and "would you please air the rear tires up in a few days, as I run them tubeless and they are brand new, to not to ruin the sidewalls". Can you say black mail!

I came to pick it up and pay the "ransom" and you guessed it, the tires were flat and the sidewalls were cracked, ruining the tires.

Call me stupid, the panic I was in from the pressure from the Fla. Hwy. Patrol to remove my race car as they said "now", the seriousness of the accident, etc, etc. I will admit, what was I thinking!

The facts are still the truth and the truth is the facts! Of course those who think they know what transpired will believe what they think happened. The important thing is " I know what the truth is".

BTW: The best I ever went with a Waibel short block was on the record or one tenth under and the fact that I was good and I could cut a "an excellent light" had a lot to do with winning a lot of races. After installing a Troxel short block, after the third "break-in pass", I went 4 tenths under the record, short shifting at 6,200 rpm instead of 7,000 rpm! hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Eventually after getting use to this "new power" I went 8 tenths under! I wonder why?
