Strange and M-W use a different degree on their splines---THEY ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE between each other if that is what you are asking !!!!!!! For instance A 35 spline MW AXLE WILL NOT work in a Strange spool and vice versa--Same for the other spline count-Moser will put either company"s spline in their(Moser) products but you hafta let them know WHEN you order from Moser--Hope this helps---Comp 387

I've always heard that all the manufacturers (except MW) use the same spline pitch. So Strange, Moser & others will interchange without issues.

Hi
I had a Moser spool & axles (STEEL SPOOL) Got a new set of brakes & aluminum spool from Strange The Moser axles would NOT mate with the Strange spool. SOOO... I then got an aluminum spool from Strange TO MATCH the Strange axles. NOW the Moser axles fit in the Strange aluminum spool?????? I don't get it! This is what happens in my world???????????? |

As I said YOU MUST use Strange Axles in ANY spool but the spool must be drilled for Strange axles----If you have a Moser spool and it is drilled for MW axles you must use axles that use a MW spline---I have a Moser spool AND axles drilled for Strange 35 axle spline in a MW 9 inch Ford case ---it does work ya gotta have the RIGHT splining----Comp 387

I have nixed and matched before. It is MW that uses the different spline. Strange also throws you a curve on the location of the splines in the spool. your axles have to be centered and almost touching because Strange puts it's spline in the center of the spool, "not" all the way through it or to the outside bearing. You have to be careful of spline engagement. In 40 spline MW uses the same as moser and strange..

I concur with Alger....at least that is my experience with mopar 30/35 splines. I do not know about 40 splines being the same angle for all axles or not. I would put bluing or something similar on axles with strange spool to check spline engagement.....I crashed my car because of inadequate spline engagement. I think you need an inch or more.....does anybody know?

I have always heard that maximum strength is achieved when spline engagement is at a depth at least the diameter of the axle shaft.
I think the same theory (and rule) applies to wheel studs and their engagement into the main body of the lugs. |

The design rule of thumb from my engineering class is engagment needs to be 1 1/2 times diameter. I think this is for grade 5 fasteners. Though we all know this can be less if in a pinch.
