Default Re: A solution to the grade point issue

"Why not just open the field to anyone who wants to race and do away completely with grade points?"

That would just about be the death knell for points meets, wouldn't it,Jim?
Who would go to them at that point, unless they were just down the street.
The Divisionals entry / payout ratio would then have to be adjusted to be at least the same as a mediocre bracket race.
Never gonna happen....

I think the payout was BETTER in 1978 than today. I was runner up for class so I didnt win any money. You also had to win class to run the eliminator.

In 78 you could make about $1200 or so for a points meet win. And about $7500 for a National. And we were pretty decal'd up.
You do make more now but the expences way exceed the returns.

Dont forget that the $1200 and the $7500 would be a lot more in todays money if all else was the same.

Yeah, back then, $7500 would just about buy you a really nice new truck to tow with. A similar truck today would cost you $40K or more.

I agree, but the $40 would be worth more also.
It is much more expensive to race now and the level of competition is way up.
There aren't many first round turkeys anymore.

Please take your thread jacking NHRA bashing to your own thread.
I was offering a suggestion to eliminate the other pi$$ing and moaning about Kurt Busch, Roy Hill etc.
You could name your thread "A thousand reasons why I hate the _HRA"
We actually like racing in the NHRA, yes there are things that could be improved, but it's still the best game in town.

See you at the races,

You can and its a lot cheaper than that, grab one of the Family Sedans or a rental that is in the guides and Tech through.

Simple, I did it with the Pacifica....

Found out I didnt have to lay down that blistering 25 second pass while I changed the CD to "Cracklin Rosie" but , oh well.....It makes for an interesting story......bad decisions almost always make for good stories as Mandie has a sticker on her fridge that says that Im starting to believe it.

Why not?
