X-Tech,
I forgot. The 66' Belvedere II Hemi Station Wagon "Lead Zeppelin II" ended up with John Macey (circa 1973) out of Eastern Connecticut. We used to park right next to him at Dover Drag Strip. The wagon ran SS/FA (like you said), and at 11.50's. John got the wagon, after the first 'Lead Zeppelin" car, a 1970 SS/DA Hemi Cuda. The "Lead Zeppelin" lettering on the wagon was exactly like the Led Zeppelin III album cover.. Man those S/S Springs on that car lifted that wagon right up. Paul |

1963 and 1964 Max-Wedge Wagons.
Not only the rarest, but quite possibly the winningest Stock class cars. I would bet less than 5 built with an aluminum front-clip. Another car with undocumented info. the 1968 GSS 440 Darts. Cars ran SS/EA at the 68' Winternationals. No way 50 were produced by the time that National Event ran. PC |

I think you could only get an aluminum clip on a 2 dr sedan or 2 dr hardtop from the factory, but I'm sure some racers changed to the lighter front end. One of the 63 Polara 500 max convertibles supposedly got an aluminum nose installed 2 weeks after it was bought new. It had no trouble winning street races in Yonkers, and was dubbed " King of the hill" .

Don't know if it's been posted before--when I lived in Roswell N.M. a friend had a '69 Falcon 429SCJ-4-spd. car. He said he ordered it locally with the usual deletes, rubber mat & bench seat. He claims he was told Ford had this stuffed in their order books way in the back as a "lightweight" version of a Torino for those that wanted to race that body style but didn't want all the extras that added weight & bring it down in class. I think it was something like D/S & ran pretty well, but was one rattlely SOB.
Another car I know existed that was REALLY weird was from Randall AMC (home of the 401 Gremlin) was a 401 PACER! ![]() ![]() Tom Iverson, the guy responsible at Ranadll AMC for installing 401in the Gremlin told me they actually had several requests for them. Although they were a tight fit a few (he couldn't remember how many) were built but they were so butt-ugly they never caught on. He said he did hear a rumor a few factory 360 Pacers were built. |

In 1963 the NHRA put pressure on Mother Mopar because not enough aluminum cars were built, so the owners of an unknown number of '63 Max Wedge cars were sent complete aluminum front ends whether they asked for them or not. The object was to get enough of them out there to satisfy the NHRA. JimR
