did they ever make a aluminim 318 a coworker says his dad has one heads block in a 66 sal. conv. all stock chuck

Been racing Mopars since 1964,never even heard of such a thing and they definitely didn't install them in cars.

Now that doesn't mean that there weren't factory experimental parts made but since the 318 was not a performance engine I doubt that they built racing stuff for it.

Tell him to put up or shut up then offer to take a magnet over to his father's house and test the block.

Chrysler did make a few aluminum 318 blocks but they were only available over the counter and it was in the 90's. One of the mopar mags had a story a few years back.

Correct, we have a ex-chrysler engineer that lives around here and he has one in his Street Rod. Neat looking piece for sure. Its an alum block and heads that was experimented with, but, never put into production.

But the original post said that it was a 66 318, which would have been the old "Polysphere" wider block version. Can`t imagine MoPar would have done much with that, since it was near the end of it`s production run, and the modern "A" series 318 was about to debut.

In 66 Chrysler never had an aluminum intake for the poly motor. I am not even sure if the 4barrel cast intake and carburetor was available from the factory in 1966. The only aluminum 4 barrel intake available for the poly was aftermarket made by Weiand. I have one on my street car. The poly motor was the "A" block. The later 318 block was the "LA". The poly was phased out of U. S. passenger car production at the end of the 1966 model year. Truck used them in 1968, for how long in 68 I don't know. I heard some Canadian passenger cars had them in 68 but were all done by 1969.
