Passenger compartment is from firewall to rear bulkhead, door to door and roof to floor. Even if it were legal in the passenger compartment, if I were a tech and saw that "hidden" behind anything I would be doing some investigating!
Personally I would want the lines as short as possible so on your AMC it would be passenger side inner front fender or firewall. If you can mount it vertical you might consider it on the passenger side radiator support.
It's about time NHRA allowed these in Stock!

Just put it in front of the radiator on the radiator crossmember. ...I've put them there for years with no problems ,Aris also has his in that location on the SS/C car. ...If you set the pressure balance correctly you can put it just about anywhere,as they say ,it aint rocket science.....Tom

Just a heads up,

As per the NHRA rule book of 2009 it states in General Regulations Section 4:2 That "Any liquid other than engine fuel being used, located behind the front firewall (on a front-engine car), is considered ballast and is prohibited, except for intercooler tanks that contain water and/or ice only."

I took a look at some of the old rulebooks that I had around and found one that went back to 1996 and the rule was in 4:2 and the wording was the same with the exception of the intercooler tanks.

Looks like putting the accumulator to the rear of the firewall is a good way to get bounced from tech.

Bob
