There is a huge difference in Dakota engines from '87 to the 1992 and later versions.....up til '91 they used a TBI fuel injection system with a carburated style wet intake and the '92 and later version have the newer "beer barrel" style SMPI fuel injection system....I have worked on both and the '92 - '96 is a decent package....the '95 & '96 have a higher lift cam spec....1st Gen Dakota body style stopped in 1990....2nd went from 1991 to 1996 so you could build a magum motored (V6 or V8) using this body, claim it as a '95 or '96 for the bigger cam and either a 3.9,5.2 or 5.9 engine.......

Great info...
Is there anyone that makes a "cheater" cam for the first gen Dakota. I was thinking about the carburated 1987 engine.. it takes out the computer cost of the later engine..

Cheater cam? I haven't heard that term in about 20 years! How old are you anyway? Comp Cams makes some very nice Stocker cams for all those motor combos. Jim

I'm 62 and I've got one in my spare motor. Used it all last year.

I was looking through my old late 70's Direct Connection book and they used 3/4 race cam and Cheater Cam..
Too bad the specs they give back in the 70's wouldn't do you any good these days..

I'm 57,,and when I here the term 3/4 race cam,,I always ask the guy, "What does that mean?? 12 lobes are for racing and the other 4 are stock??"
Jason,,call Bullet Cams and tell them what you want to do and give them the info they ask you for. Danny Durham |

O you silly Boys! A 3/4 cam runs to the 1000 foot mark and lays down.
