If I remember correctly when you use threaded rod it has to be 3/8 dia, at least that was what I was told by a tech guy once when I had used 5/16.

They battery will be fine. I dont like finding things out the hard way plus they are cheaper to fix at the shop. I am excited about attending my first NHRA div.
