Charlie,
You don't need the foam, and if you ever have a fuel issue at fuel check, you can easily pump out the old fuel and put in fresh fuel without it being contaminated by old fuel left in the foam (regular pump gas mixed in even a little will contaminate the foam horribly, and your gas won't pass fuel check - guess how I know).
