Fuel Cell question
I'm replacing the fuel cell. Going smaller. I want about 3-4 gallons to lay flat with outlets protruding below like my old one. No foam. Most of what I'm seeing is the plastic deals, and I've heard stories about fuel not checking if it sets up in one. I have aluminum now and haven't had any problems. Any suggestions?

Re: Fuel Cell question
I prefer the aluminum versions. They would seem to be much more durable than plastic and I've seen several older plastic ones that had deformed. Summit has some aluminum 4 & 5 gallon sizes that may be worth considering. I have an aluminum 10 gal. now but will eventually go to a 5 gal.

Re: Fuel Cell question
I have a Summit 5 gal aluminum cell that I put in about 5 yrs ago when they made the change to allow cells in stockers. I had a MAJOR issue with the Summit cell. Whatever sealant was used between the filler and the tank was crap. It was not properly resistant to gasoline and began disintegrating. My tank was full of chunks of sealant which caused continual problems with pumps and filters. It would clog an in-line Earl's filter in one run. That was a long time ago and hopefully Summit has corrected the problem, but it is something to watch out for.

Re: Fuel Cell question
Can you legally take the foam out of the cell?? Most of our problems seem to stem from the foam degrading and getting into everything!

Re: Fuel Cell question
you don't need foam

Re: Fuel Cell question
Charlie,
You don't need the foam, and if you ever have a fuel issue at fuel check, you can easily pump out the old fuel and put in fresh fuel without it being contaminated by old fuel left in the foam (regular pump gas mixed in even a little will contaminate the foam horribly, and your gas won't pass fuel check - guess how I know).
