Stock seat clarification please

First off,this is an honest to goodness situation that I saw with my own eyes. A number of years ago I had a buddy in stock eliminator that
took some parts to a shop to have them chemically cleaned( if you know what I mean) anyway there was a set of completely de-upholestered
Camaro front seats there for chemically cleaning . Both seats were
sitting in front of me with a tag with the customers name on them.(Yes, he raced at the same track as I did) Now I dont know how much weight was removed from them,but they definately came back with less metal on them. Were the seats compromised as
far as safety,dont know,but how far does it go? If safe lightweight racing
are allowed hopefully no one will try and modify them even further.
