Hello all,
I bought a used 12 bolt Moser rear end from a buddy. Housing is about 3 years old with stock ends on it. It has a Strange spool, 33 spl axles, and Strange c-clip eliminator kit in my 68. When I got it, the drums were full of gear oil. I reused my rear brakes which were good. I assumed he just didnt get the gaskets sealed against the backing plates. Well, I found gear oil inside my drums last week after 4 race weekends. I cleaned it real well, tightened up the 4 retaining bolts a little on each side and ran it Saturday to see if maybe it was just seeping past the backing plates. It appears to me that the gear oil is seeping past the axle seal itself. It is not leaking between the "clam shells", nor the backing plates. I called Strange and Tracy said she wasnt quite sure, other than if the bearings have a side load on it. I am farely certain the "clam shells" have some years on them (drag car only). Any experiences with recommendations? Thank you, Clark Doukas Omaha Last edited by cad; 05-06-2011 at 11:48 AM. |
