Moser 12 bolt/Strange c-clip elim seal leak?

Hello all,
I bought a used 12 bolt Moser rear end from a buddy.
Housing is about 3 years old with stock ends on it. It has a Strange spool, 33 spl axles, and Strange c-clip eliminator kit in my 68.
When I got it, the drums were full of gear oil. I reused my rear brakes which were good.
I assumed he just didnt get the gaskets sealed against the backing plates.
Well, I found gear oil inside my drums last week after 4 race weekends.
I cleaned it real well, tightened up the 4 retaining bolts a little on each side and ran it Saturday to see if maybe it was just seeping past the backing plates.
It appears to me that the gear oil is seeping past the axle seal itself. It is not leaking between the "clam shells", nor the backing plates.
I called Strange and Tracy said she wasnt quite sure, other than if the bearings have a side load on it.
I am farely certain the "clam shells" have some years on them (drag car only).
Any experiences with recommendations?

Thank you,
Clark Doukas

Did you use silicone on the mating surfaces? Be sure that it's not leaking there by using silicone liberally on the mating surfaces before changing or assuming it's the bearings. The gaskets are notorious for not sealing.

It's definitely not the gaskets that "sandwich" the backing plate.
The cclip elims on my previous rear end didnt leak a drop.
The drip is on the outside of the outer clam shell. I am thinking the seal that rides on the axle is worn out.

You may want to check the axles where they pass the seal to
make sure there is NOT a burr or something cutting the seal.

You may want to check that the housing tubes are inline with the center section.

You might check the the metal sticking past the flange. We had to cut about 1/4 to 3/8" off the axle tube off because it was keeping the C_Clip elim. from bolting up all the way. After we did that we haven't had any more leaks. You might not have to cut off that much. In other words measure the depth of the groove in the C-Clip elim. verses how much is sticking out past the housing flange Remember you have to have some of the tube sticking out past the flange to keep the C-Clip elim. centered in axle tube, so don't grind it off flush with the flange . I'm sorry if I went in to too much detail. Kenney Kelley
