You would have easily have a couple thousand dollars in a T-5 transmission by the time you bought a rebuild kit, a shifter, straight cut gears, and good clutch set up.

You may even want to go to a Fun Ford Weekend to look at those various cars as well. Some meets have SVO clubs there meeting there as well.
Chris could not make it more clear...the dilema...someone wants to build a car from different pieces he's got laying around and run S or SS class.

here is exatically what i want to do.

take the 4 cyl turbo motor that is in this 88 lx coupe that i have and make it run stock or ss. If i have to convert it to a 83 front end, that is fine and dandy with me, and just take off the intercooler. i just need to know what class it would fall under with a t-5, 8.8 rear end, cage, and tubular front suspension.

The tubular front end is not legal in any Stock class. Period. I believe it would only be allowed in the modified classes of SS.

Before you start working in your car, you need to make sure that the current cylinder head and intake manifold part number on your SVO engine can be used in a 1983 Turbo Mustang application. The same applies to the throttle body and turbo size.

i think i have everything figured out. i talked to the local guys here and have talked to some others around aswell. tried to make it to topeka and denver, but couldnt afford it at the time.

takin the tubular front end off, taking the intercooler off, swapping headlights, fenders, hood, bumper, and taillights to match a 1983 coupe and running the 4 cyl turbo NON intercooled 5 speed (140ci T by the classification) with the weight brake being 16.12 which would put me in P.

now tell me if im doing this wrong.

165hp (factored) x 16 + 170 = 2810 is my minimum weight right?

im not trying to be an idiot or anything, just wanna do stuff right the first time.

and SSDiv6, the part numbers are ok on the motor.

Yes ,you are on the right track,my friend , but the head and intake numbers don't match up to an 85-86 SVO.
The pistons/ shortblock are ok, though.
