Can you tell me what happened to the Super Stock GT classes. I saw some results and it looks like they let older body cars in it now. I don't race in Super Stock, i'm just a fan. I thought it was reserved for late model cars with early engines.

NHRA lifted the restriction that GT cars are 1980 and newer, and also allow any body style. Basically if the car is in the classification guide it is eligible for GT.

It was several years ago. We haviing been racing our 70 Duster in GT for at least 4 years now. And I think it was longer than that. GT is interesting in that motor for motor there is a .05 disadvantage to GT from pure SS, which is ok cause you kow when you go that is the rule. Might be some change shortly between FWD conversions and GT in original RWD cars in GT. I think we can all agree that the Cobalts (etc) have an advantage over the big rwd bodies with the same motor. But than again, I don't know if we can all agree on anything out here. Makes it interesting.

My car is a 1980 Volare, so even prior to the rule change it had a lot of different classes it could potentially run.
One of the worst things I could've done... got to daydreaming and photoshopped up this Dodge Stratus, almost 600# lighter than the Volare. Will never be able to afford to build one, but if I ever win the lottery...! Driving Mike Volkman's Sebring got me hooked. That thing works nice, and really cuts through the air. ![]()

Gt index handicap versus SS is a very obvious one. Bigger problem is bogus Truck motors in GT/AA at rediculous HP advantage over true performance motors.
454 vette motor GT/AA 10.40s, 454 Truck motor in Cavalier 9.60s. Thats the motor not the chassis entirely. Once again a California combination which started the death of GT/AA racing. Small block fly wt. GT/AA are also an issue for heavy BB cars. Is it index, is it MASS to move in the BB car? A 7 and 7.5 lb GT class could separate the BB and SB cars as BB could take out wt and escape to 7 or 7.5 class.No escaping a Bogus motor though. |
