S mith Machine was making the Schubeck style lifters the last time I heard. My 2 cents about them is there are better ( safer ) ways to go.

Cool Re: Shubeck style lifters

What is the story on tool steel lifters? I have a Bullet stocker cam that is a steel billet, with Smith lifters. Would that cam be compatible with tool steel lifters? At least those don't have a puck that can come loose, shatter, and fill an engine with glass particles.

I recently broke two smith lifters on my new engine after about 9 runs. All I can tell you is I broke the last Smith lifter I will ever brake! It could have been worst and I could have lost the entire engine. A new set of pistons, cam and tool steel lifters and the problem will be solved. The funny thing is my spare engine has Shubeck lifters and they have never failed. Simply put, no one can afford to destroy their engine with defective lifters! It only took one lifter failure to realize we have a weak link.

Anyone who is building a new engine should investigate tool steel lifters. They will not come apart and cause extensive internal engine damage. Hopefully, the people at Smith lifters can find the reason why their product is failing and correct the problem.

Who makes the tool steel lifters? I've heard about them and don't have a recommended brand name. Will they work with that steel cam I have?
