Question Re: MP's Final Round Dial at "the Bend"??

The 11.38 dial had to be a misprint. Myron didnt become the world champ by not paying attention to the details. If he dialed an 83 and they put a 38 in the computer and he didnt notice, I'd be surprised. Great light by Rick. Is this the Rick Beahr that won the summit super series?

He missed it, unfortunately. That would've been a h*ll of a race.

Yup, that's the '05 Summit World Champion, Ricky Baehr... who is 28-2 in the SWC again this year! One bad dude, and a really nice guy to boot.

I was there, and was Rick's 4th round victim with a bye to the final and basically the iron man on the line because of the missed dial deal..........

couple of thoughts.....

1. Poor Myron! I feel terrible for him. We all know that it is our responsibility to check the boards, but, man that sucks. The final of a National event, big money and points on the line, and with him being well over a 1,000 miles from home! At least you could read Grand Bends boards well, that is more than you can say for some tracks. Still, I hope whomever put in his dial in wrong gets a good reaming. If most of us made that kind of mistake at our job there would be hell to pay.

2. Rick Baehr. Stockers beware, he is as good as advertised, and a lot more personable than I expected. I had him .003 on the tree, but as one mentioned about his stripe driving, he took it .006 on me, with a 23 MPH disadvantage at the stripe.

Post Re: MP's Final Round Dial at "the Bend"??

I don't usually check the dial-in boards and didn't that time. I don't really care for the rule because I shouldn't have to make sure track officials/employees are doing their job! I'm there to race! On the other hand, we are all human and it is a good idea to look for stuff like water on the track, dial-ins, or whatever, that may have been missed.

This time, I got bit. I "probably" would have lost anyway because I ran .05 off my dial, which was 11.78. (The "7" was clearly written.) I miscalculated the weather and the engine may have been too warm after I started the car in the lanes after the long wait. The "probably" bothers me, but Rick is obviously a good racer. I'll just have to pay more attention next time.

That difference is sure gonna look bad on TV!

I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed that they just got it backwards and had it as an 11.38 instead of an 11.83, so I thought you would've been dead-on. 3's and 7's... they look pretty similar, and they're pretty close to each other on the keypad, too.

But yeah, it's only been a rule to check your dial-in for a decade or two.

Glad you got some sticker money, though!

I like the dial-in boards as you do the burn-out, because I will look at it then. I also like having my husband on the starting line to check for water, oil, and correct dial-ins. Once the burn out is over, I'm focused on the staging process and getting a good light. Congrats on the Runner up Myron, sorry you lost this way.
