Has anyone else noticed the Manley 13198 (11/32" stem, 10°, +.050" installed height, machined steel) valve locks come out anywhere from .065" to .073" additional installed height ?? A far cry from the specified +.050" additional????
Not only is the fact that they are that far off somewhat concerning, but the variance from .065" to .073" between locks in one package scares me... If the two locks installed a valve are not exactly the same dimensions, one of the locks will have almost all of the spring load on its groove rather than shared between the two ![]() ![]() |

Kevin…We have also experienced the same problems. Manley retainers have been an issue for us too. Alternative choices were made to get around it. Hopefully they are not trading Quality for "offshore" profit. MB.

Who makes a decent retainer/lock today? I've got Crane and Lunati pieces...but
nothing in the added height should I need to go there....The ones I have hopefully were made in the good 'ol USA...as they have been here for quite some time... Anybody get 'em from Trick Titanium? |

Kevin,
One thing I have found on the Manley locks and retainers, they measure different when used with another manufacturers parts. For instance if you take a Comp retainer and measure the installed hgt with a Comp lock, and then try it again with a Manley lock, it will measure different. I found this out a long time ago. I pretty much stick with one manufacturers parts. If I am using Comp retainers, I use their locks. Comp seems to be the most consistent over time. I have some single Comp retainers I bought 15 years ago for checking stuff and they still are identical to what you buy today. I would bet Crane is the same way. Cant say that for most other brands. Some of the less expensive house brand stuff is the worse, it will vary from part to part in the same package ![]()
